Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, author of the famous work “The Little Prince”, once stated that “war is a disease
like typhus." Certainly, a warlike conflict, like a pandemic, can have serious consequences.
devastating socioeconomic conditions for any nation, but what this French writer could not imagine is
that, during World War II, the Japanese army deliberately contaminated bacteria of the genus
Rickettsia more than a thousand water wells in China in order to study typhus outbreaks and their potential application
military. In this sad way, Saint-Exupéry's words went from being a mere simile to becoming a
tangible reality. This reality is biological warfare.
