The image shows the adherence of P. damselae to the membrane of epithelial cells. We have called it false happiness because although the cell has a nice smiling face, it is significantly compromised due to the damage caused by the toxins secreted by P. damselae. The photograph was taken with a fluorescence microscope (100X-immersion). P. damselae subsp. damselae shows a green color due to the conjugation of a plasmid expressing GFP. The nuclei of human epithelial cells stained with Höchst are shown in blue.
